What Can We Do?

Many pro-lifers may have become complacent in recent years as the previous administration’s actions supported a more pro-life culture in our country.

Things have quickly changed, however.  President Biden has already signed an executive order forcing tax dollars to be funneled to Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the U.S.  He has also reversed President Trump’s recent signing of the Geneva Consensus, a declaration to the UN that there is no global right to abortion and which criticizes the UN for supporting the killing of babies in abortion, a consensus among the U.S. and 33 other countries.

Though events on the abortion front look bleak, now is not the time to give up.  Now we have to be more vigilant and more vocal than ever as the new presidential administration sets its plans in motion.

So, what does that look like?  What can we do?

(1) Pray.  God is bigger than the president or any earthly power.  Just as Moses, Ezra and Nehemiah turned to God first, He has to be our first source as well!

(2) Contact your U.S. senators and representatives and let them know you stand for life and you want them to as well.

(3) Ditto for your state reps.  Those of us in Ohio are fortunate that our current government has taken several pro-life measures, but we still have legal abortions in our state.  That needs to stop.

(4) Support organizations working to protect the unborn in whatever way you can, whether that’s with a financial contribution, spending some time volunteering, or getting them publicity by wearing their t-shirt.

(5) Promote your beliefs.  Think signs and t-shirts don’t help?  Think again.  Why do you think that people put campaign signs in their yards?  Because they are hoping to sway opinion.  Generally, people want to be in the majority.  They want to fit in and believe that they share the popular opinion (especially if it’s the opinion of people they admire or hold in high esteem — why else would celebrity or influencer endorsements work?).  So if folks see a LOT of pro-life messages around them and support for unborn babies, it could have an effect on their leanings as well. Take to social media with your pro-life messages and get the word out!  (Speaking of popular opinion, did you know that 51% of people in the U.S. take a pro-life position in one form or another? And a recent poll shows that 57% of millennials oppose Roe v Wade!)

(6) Show up.  For the same reason listed in #5, be present at the events raising awareness for pro-life missions.  The more bodies people see at these events, the better.   (Keep them peaceful, of course!)

(7) Practice what you preach.  If you know someone experiencing an unplanned pregnancy, be sure to support that new mom- or dad-to-be. Be available to them, counsel them, and care for them.

(8) Vote pro-life.  Make sure you know where you candidates stand on abortion every time a primary or general election rolls around.

Despite what the news is reporting, don’t give up.  There are things to be done, and you are just the person to do them!

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Galatians 6:9
